David Frederick has been a glass blower for over 20 years; pulling inspiration from the waters of his childhood in Hawaii as well as his current home in the lower Cascades of Oregon.
As a lampworker, the heat for melting glass comes from a flame that is upwards of 3,000 degrees. He uses simple tools specific to glass blowing, like a claw grabber, in addition to common tools like craftsman pliers, as well as several tools crafted from graphite, to make all of his glass creations.
David specializes in dichroic glass. A material originally designed for the windows of space shuttles but is used in this application to create something colorful and artistic.
